New research by the Play Like Mum website has analysed historical data from the past 10 years to reveal how the cost of transport has changed over the last decade. A car can be very handy for transporting your family around! In 2011 it cost £ 15 049.50 to buy a brand new Volkswagen Golf which increased to £ 18 000.00 in 2017 and to £ 23 000.00 in 2021. In 6 years the price increased dramatically by 27.8% and by 52.8% in 10 years. On top of the motoring inflation fuel prices are skyrocketing at the moment which compounds the price increase. The annual fuel cost for the Volkswagen Golf would be around £ 1 056 for an average of 10 000 miles. Uncertainty in global markets and a weakening exchange rate could lead to fresh rises in coming weeks. If you don t have a car you can still rely on public transport which also comes with a cost and has seen a 43.6% increase in over ten years. From £ 48.75 in 2011 to £ 70 in 2021 - that is if you live outside London of course! The fare rises for London public transport are expected to generate an additional £ 151m for TfL by the end of December 2022.
