NEW CAR BUYERS PRIORITISE SENSIBILITY OVER STYLE

Almost three-quarters (73%) of UK drivers say that buying a car that is reasonably priced fuel efficient reliable and easy to fix is more important than how it looks (70% men and 76% women) with 18-34-year-olds the most likely to agree with this (79%) according to a new Opinium survey of 2 000 drivers. The survey commissioned by InsuretheGap.com found that more than three-quarters (78%) of drivers do careful research before buying a new or second-hand car including checking its fuel efficiency safety and general reliability record (79% men and 76% women). Again those aged 18 - 34 years (82%) are the most likely to agree with this along with drivers in the North East of England (86%) compared to Scotland (72%) and the East of England (72%). Nearly two-thirds (63%) of drivers also say a car is just a set of wheels that gets me from A to B (59% men and 67% women) with those in the West Midlands (70%) in England and Yorkshire & Humberside (68%) the most likely to agree with this while the North East (56%) of England and South West (58%) England are the least likely to. Three fifths (60%) of those in Scotland agree. Over half of drivers (56%) prefer a car that is understated and doesn t appear attention-seeking (53% men and 59% women). Londoners are the most likely to agree with this (63%) compared with only half of drivers in Wales (51%) and the East Midlands (51%) the lowest regions in the survey.
