New research by Moneybarn has revealed the areas of the UK where you re most likely to get fined for driving in a bus lane and the councils amassing the highest revenue with the city of Manchester issuing the most fines and making an annual revenue of over £ 3.7 million from bus lane fines! Currently the cost of a penalty charge notice is £ 60. Bristol ranked second with over 103 000 fines for driving in a bus lane. Bristol council also charges £ 60 if drivers make the mistake of driving into a bus lane with the potential to reduce this to £ 30 if paid within 14 days. Glasgow was in third place with over 65 000 bus lane fines - significantly less than Manchester and Bristol but still over 50 000 more than the council issuing the least bus lane fines - Portsmouth. Birmingham and Lambeth rounded up the top five with 64 325 and 46 609 fines issued respectively. Unsurprisingly given the number of fines issued Manchester council was the local authority making the most revenue from bus lane fines with an eye-watering £ 3.7million in revenue. Barnet council was in second place with £ 2.9 million in revenue followed by Lambeth with £ 2.7 million. Further Findings included that Portsmouth was the area that fined drivers the least with only 10 842 fines in one year. Swindon earned the least revenue from bus lane fines with only £ 582.60 in revenue despite 14 682 fines issued.
